Saskatchewan Crane Operator Certification - The process to enable people to operate specific kinds of cranes is to take crane operator certification training to receive certification. The certification process incorporates classroom learning, hands-on practice and an ability assessment. A variety of training programs are offered for overhead cranes, mobile cranes, tower cranes, forklifts, boom trucks and various hoisting machinery. Trainees will learn the fundamentals of equipment characteristics, safety, and operational practices related with these types of cranes.

Customized Practical Training and Evaluation:
Businesses could request customized practical evaluation and training on-site at the work facility following the in-class session. Two operators will be trained at a time by one instructor. The duration of time required for training will differ depending on the employer's levels of ability and machine kind, but normally requires one to two hours. The training will concentrate on practical skills such as safe operating practices, planning the lift and right rigging practices. Employers have to pre-schedule the on-site session.

After in-class instruction, practical operating instruction and assessment, and written examination, the trainee will receive an individual wallet certificate and the company will be given a wall certificate. To achieve certification, trainees have to have an 80 percent passing score on both practical and written tests.

The program consists of: Manuals, regulations and policies; dangers of high voltage; safety concerns; emergency rescue procedures; signals and communications; terms, types and components; pre-operational check; crane configuration and capacity; pre-lift set-up and planning; wire rope and rigging; hammerhead / luffing jib crane operations; fall protection; climbing cranes; WHMIS; crane maintenance and CPR & First aid.

To become an overhead crane operator, the minimum basics comprise possessing the mental and physical capability needed to perform crane work. The necessary capabilities which are essential include a normal field of vision, depth perception, coordination, manual dexterity and reaction time. Potential operators must not have the tendency to become dizzy. Operators who do not already have evidence of experience and qualifications should obtain certification. Operators should be qualified to operate the particular kind of machine that they would be utilizing to carry out their work.
